Hey guys! I hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend with your family. Today I want to talk about a little experiment I did the other day. I saw this really cool video on Facebook about cleaning the microwave with water and lemons so I decided to give it a go. The microwave they used was pretty dirty and since I hadn’t cleaned my microwave in weeks, I thought it was a good idea to try.
The first step is to pour about 1/2 cup of water to a microwave safe bowl. Then you want to cut a lemon in half and squeeze the juice into the bowl you added your water in. Drop your lemon halves into the same bowl. Microwave for 3 minutes and let it sit for 5 minutes. After the 5 minutes are up, remove bowl from microwave (careful it might be hot) wipe away with a cloth or towel starting from the top, sides and lastly the floor (don’t forget the door)
After the 5 minutes were up, I took a cleaning cloth and started to wipe away. The top and back sides of the microwave were pretty easy to clean. The sides and bottom were a little tougher and took some scrubbing to wipe away some gunk. I was really hoping the microwave would be like new after the cleaning but that wasn’t the case. The lemon water did break down a lot of grime but it didn’t do a great job the glass turntable was not cleaned at all. I had to hand wash it and throw it in the dishwater after.
I think that if I had done the process twice the results would have been better. I will continue to clean the microwave using this method at least once every two weeks to get all the gunk out. What are some of your kitchen hacks? Any natural cleaning methods? Let me know so I can put them to the test!
